Homemade dinner and awkward moments

Last night I went to Glory Days with some of my friends, and apparently it was the night for me to run into a bunch of people I went to high school with. Don’t get me wrong, it was good seeing a bunch of people again, I just wasn’t expecting it. Even more awkward, one of them was our waiter..he was a good waiter and all..but it was just weird.

I went to my weekly appointment with my chiropractor today, and afterwards I decided to go to Starbucks..because I love coffee. However, today was different, it was hot out, and I wanted what I call, “my summer drink” aka a Passion Iced Tea Lemonade..sweetened. As I walked in to the Starbucks I passed by a couple of people I went to high school with. We weren’t friends, but we knew each other, but not enough to say hi. You guys know what I’m talking about right? I mean with a graduating class of 635 from my high school, how was I supposed to know and be friends with everyone?? Anyways..the point of this Starbucks story is..on my way out, I managed to spill some of “my summer drink,” which is pink btw..down the front of my white shirt and on my shorts. So the moral of the story is..well there isn’t one..but even after college you have awkward moments.

Something that was a pick me up after the awkward Starbucks moment, was that my roommate, Sarah, made enchiladas, as we listened to Dane Cook in the background. As Sarah made dinner, I sat at our bar like a child, pretending that I could help, but I also was able to sneak some pieces of chicken when she wasn’t looking. Of course the dinner was amazing!

Housewarming

It’s official..I have started my life away from campus. The event that validated this new chapter in my life was my housewarming party.

My roommate and I prepped the night before..getting our apartment ready (putting table cloths on and under the table and putting out coasters everywhere) and buying drinks and whatnot.

We got numerous amounts of gifts..mainly alcohol, and a crock-pot. The crock-pot was from my friend Christian.

Now we feel like college students again, having more alcohol than food in our fridge and freezer. But it was good seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. I was surprised our neighbors didn’t complain that we were being loud. We weren’t extremely loud..but sure louder than usual.

The good thing is that no one spilled anything (that I saw) and it seemed that everyone had a good time. This gave me confidence that there will be more get-togethers at my apartment..and maybe next time I won’t be running after people with coasters!

Bacon

I heard about Bakon Vodka on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien (my favorite show ever) and yes..it is what you are thinking. It is bacon flavored vodka. Today, while I was out at Shoppers with my roommate, getting supplies for our housewarming party coming up we stopped in the ABC store in the same shopping center. I was disappointed to learn that only 4 states carry the bacon flavored vodka, and Virginia is not one of them. I know it sounds weird, maybe gross to some of you..I wasn’t actually going to buy it, I just wanted to see out of curiosity if the ABC stores here carried the flavored vodka.

If anyone is into The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon follow me on Twitter: Mason_Photog. I tweet throughout the shows almost every week night with my 2 cents on what is going on. Although I’m not too much of a fan of Carson’s show..as far as I’m concerned he was at his best when he was the host of TRL.

In case anyone was wondering my fish, Ruby is still alive.

Ambassadors vs Patriot Leaders and Cheap Eats

I have done something that I haven’t been able to do my last 4 years at Mason. Something that Mason does not allow. I hung up pictures in my new apartment by putting nails into the wall! A liberating feeling, knowing that someone trusts me with a hammer and a nail to make a hole in my wall, left me uneasy. I used a ruler that I’ve had since my times at Sangster (my elementary school) in an attempt to make sure everything would be even, since I do not have a level. And yes, it took a one or two tries to get it right, but I didn’t end up ruining my wall, which was a relief.

Something that my roommate, Sarah, and I did today was get a new fish. Those of you that know me, know that I have had past fish. There was our beta named, Sailor. He lived for about a year, which I considered a good run for a beta. After Sailor we decided that we each wanted our own fish, so we decided to get gold fish. We then got 2 gold fish, Tink and Patrick. They died within a couple of weeks, but we think that the pet store must have given us sick fish, but that’s another story. But, this brings me back to our new fish. Since we had the best luck with our beta, we decided to go back to that type of fish. We got a red beta and named it Ruby, inventive, I know.

I was surprised to learn that the “environmentally friendly” bag that was given to the graduates of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences was also given to the Patriot Leaders this week.

For those of you that don’t know, the Patriot Leaders are the organization that does orientation for incoming Mason students. Now, please don’t get the PL’s confused with Mason Ambassadors. The PL’s work over the summer for orientation and get paid, Ambassadors give tours, work open houses, and perform community service throughout the school year, and do not get paid. Here’s where the confusion can set in..Ambassadors also give tours over the summer to prospective students, but not to be confused with orientation. Also, there are Ambassadors that are Patriot Leaders and visa versa…it doesn’t help that both organizations have green polos..however they are different shades of green. But that’s enough of a rant on Ambassadors and PL’s.

Back to the bag situation..I essentially worked for 4 years to get this free bag that has my college on it, while the PL’s are just handed the bags like they are candy. I am not saying that the PL’s don’t work hard, so please don’t even go there with comments..I’m just saying, that at graduation they spoke about these bags like they were the best thing since sliced bread, and now people that aren’t even in CHSS have the bag. I’m not angry about this..just a little distraught.

I have a tip for those of you living on a budget, and still want to go out. I went to Red Robin with Sarah, and if you’ve been there, you know how big their burgers are. So, what we did was order one burger and had them cut it in half, so we could split it. Now, I know some of you are thinking..but what if I am truly hungry?? Well, if that is the case have no worry! Red Robin has an endless amount of fries..steak fries like you would get at Ikes. That meal will save you money and will also fill you up!

Hello World

Hey Guys!

I am a recent Mason grad, and I will be blogging for my first year after college.  I, like many recent graduates do not have a job yet, however I have had interviews and am currently in the waiting process.  Pages and pages of paperwork later (that’s what you have to do for the government) I am told to sit and wait.  This reminds me a lot of when I was applying to different colleges, fill out everything about your history, write an essay or two and just wait while people in an office make a life changing decision for you.

But, in the mean time, I bet you all are wondering what I am doing while I’m waiting.  I refuse to sit and wait by the phone when I can be enjoying myself after 4 years of hard work at Mason. I worked every weekend, late in to the night at Student Media, and had to get up early to give tours for Mason Ambassadors.  So, to have some time off is nice, and yet unknown to me.

First and foremost I have been getting my apartment all set up.  My roommate and I moved in the week of graduation and our place is just about set up.  My roommate, Sarah, and I met at freshmen orientation and wound up living in the same hall freshmen year (Truman 2nd), and have lived together for the last 2.  It is exciting having a place of my own, well..a place that I share.

Another thing that was pretty much unknown to me in college was sleep.  I only averaged about 5 hours of sleep a night my last year at Mason, so being able to sleep in, is amazing..words can not explain.

That about sums up my life since graduation, besides enjoying The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien (I pretty much love him) and I am also a big fan of The Hills (don’t judge!) and of course Jon and Kate Plus 8.

So, what’s next in my life in the real world?  We’re having our housewarming party this weekend, and I might hit up the pool.  But, I will continue to search for jobs and have my phone on me at all times for future employers to call me, with hopefully good news!
